There is no national standard for furniture paint testing, and the complaint is embarrassing

When buying furniture, quality problems are encountered, and the dispute between buyers and sellers is the best. The best way is to send the furniture for inspection. But Ms. Hu encountered an embarrassment: the new furniture has been in the house for a month, and it still smells bad. Because the furniture is made of solid wood, the problem is estimated to be in paint, but at present, there is no national standard and identification method for the detection of furniture paint in China. Ms. Hu ’s appraisal was broken, and her complaint was at an impasse.

Solid wood furniture smells bad

Not long ago, Ms. Hu added a set of solid wood furniture to her home. But I didn't expect that after the furniture was delivered, it would make the room full of odors and could not live normally. After receiving the complaint, Xuhui District Consumer Protection Committee immediately contacted the manufacturer. The person in charge of the plant said that he had visited the site and there was indeed a certain smell. He believed that the furniture was made of solid wood, and the smell might be the smell of paint. It should dissipate after being ventilated for a few days at home. After nearly another month, Ms. Hu reported that the smell of the furniture was still very heavy and could not be tolerated in daily living.

Lack of testing standards for furniture paint

The District Consumers Protection Commission stated that if there is a disagreement between the operator and the consumer about the quality of the furniture complaint, the consumer is generally advised to send the furniture for testing. If the test result exceeds the standard, the consumer may request the manufacturer to return the product. But because the material of this set of furniture is solid wood, it is unlikely that the smell comes from the wood itself, so consumers think that there is a problem with the paint used in the furniture. At present, there is no national standard and appraisal method for the inspection of furniture paint. If the testing of furniture materials is initiated, consumers will have to bear the risk that the test results are qualified, but also bear the financial loss of furniture damage and testing fees, making the mediation of such complaints into an awkward situation.

Consider "suitable capacity rate" when buying furniture

In this regard, the Consumer Protection Committee recommends that the relevant administrative functional departments and testing agencies can conduct relevant research and development as soon as possible, and develop standards and methods for furniture paint testing; at the same time, enable more manufacturers to comply with the standards and use environmentally friendly paint. In addition, the use of furniture also has a "suitable capacity rate" for the area of the house, that is, the number of furniture placed in a room of a certain unit volume is limited. If the room is too small, it is not suitable to put too much furniture, otherwise the smell of the furniture itself will not spread. Therefore, consumers should not only consider the style and price of furniture when purchasing furniture, but also choose the appropriate furniture according to their housing area.
